Absoulutely breathtaking, Marissa! How beautiful, and even though my bp was not up, it surely won't stand a chance now...I love those pix. I've always believed the ocean can calm the psyche. Thank you for sharing with us! Kathy
Unless you really have a thing against cormorants, right? Don't people who fish for a living generally not like them? Beautiful sunsets! Or are they sunrises?
A slightly crazy, sort-of-stay-at-home-mom of 2, obsessive compulsive knitter who is married to a Commercial Lobsterman, and all the fun that goes with that!
I live on an island eight miles out to sea. A very, very small island, with no gas stations, restaurants, or grocery stores.
No Shopping!! (We're trying to change that last one.)
I run our local Post Office,
am Chair of the School Board,
President and Treasurer of the Frenchboro Preschool (temporarily closed),
and serve on the board of the Frenchboro Future Development Corporation.
One day, I had a free minute, and started writing a book.
When friends, family, and neighbors asked what I do all day, I started this blog.
In the summer of 2008, I had a second free minute, and opened a bakery here on the island, and then put it online.
I don't really sleep.
I should be writing three separate blogs:
family, island life, and knitting, but there aren't enough hours in the day. So it's all here: our crazy life on this rock in the middle of nowhere, Maine!
Frenchboro is one of 14 islands off the coast of Maine that can boast year round residents. There are 51 of us here in the winter, and 18 of those are kids under 14 years. We have a K-8 One -Room Schoolhouse, a library, a church, and a Contracted Post Office. Yes, we get mail 6 days a week! We are able to travel to the mainland 3 times a week (weather permitting), but you may only travel in one direction-on or off. We have two Summertime businesses (July and August only): The Dockside Deli, and a gift shop, located within the museum. In 2008, I added the island's first year -round food business: FrenchboroBakery!
As of July 2009, we have a general store with take-out which will be open May to November, The Offshore Store!
You really have to like it to survive here.
On Frenchboro, you make your own fun and excitement. I knit.

You're right, I feel much better!
I needed that today. I'm in the fourth hour of trying to get my internet problems fixed and I have quite a few "knots in my rope"!
It is very mean to brag about how nice your island is, especially in pictures! lolol
